Volharding Shipyard Werkendam

Ship outfitting

FOR

From hull to operational ship

Outfitted with care and precision

A hull is just the beginning. At Volharding Shipyard Werkendam, we turn that hull into a fully operational ship. We combine technical precision with attention to finish and onboard comfort. From the engine room to the wheelhouse and from the interior to the safety equipment: every detail matters in the outfitting process.

Types of ships

We handle the outfitting of a wide range of ships

Dry cargo inland barges

(Chemical) tankers and stainless-steel tankers

Bunker tankers (including methanol-ready)

Coasters and other small seagoing vessels

River cruise ships

Approach and scope

Our outfitting services go beyond technology alone. We manage the entire process: from mechanical and electrical engineering to engine rooms, accommodation, wheelhouses, rudder and propeller shaft installations, and fire and safety systems. Transparent planning and clear communication are central to our approach. You always have insight into progress, costs and decisions made along the way. Thanks to our strategic location and close cooperation with regular partners, we can also respond quickly and efficiently transform any hull into a reliable and sustainable ship.

Smart work processes

Smart organisation prevents downtime. By carrying out critical steps in-house and having the right equipment available, we maintain control over quality and lead times and can respond quickly whenever changes occur. A concrete example of this is the installation of aluminium flooring systems in engine rooms. We cut, bend and install these systems entirely in-house. This allows us to shorten lead times, maintain high quality and respond quickly to changes. It is one of the many ways in which we work smartly and efficiently and maintain complete control over the outfitting process.

Interior and accommodation

A good ship is also a pleasant place to work and live. For the crew's accommodation and workspaces, we collaborate with regular and trusted partners, such as specialist carpenters and interior designers. This ensures that every space on board is safe, practical and sustainable. At the same time, we pay attention to comfort and appearance: a pleasant, well-designed environment where the crew can feel at home and work efficiently. Through careful coordination and quality control, the interior integrates seamlessly with the rest of the ship.

Our shipyard and partner network

Our shipyard in Werkendam offers all the facilities needed to efficiently and flexibly execute outfitting projects. With a modern 187-metre outfitting quay and two tower cranes, we can accommodate several ships simultaneously and work safely on a wide range of projects. As an active member of Werkendam Maritime Industries, we benefit from short lines of communication and direct access to specialised knowledge and craftsmanship. This strengthens our own capabilities and enables us to respond quickly to the specific wishes of our customers at all times.

Innovation and compliance

We build inland barges and ships that are future-ready. This means that we integrate all modern technologies and regulations, including:

Seafar remote operation technology

Methanol-ready bunkering systems; hybrid and LNG-ready configurations

EEDI optimisation and IMO Tier III compliance

Systems and installations that comply with ES-TRIN/CCR, IMO/SOLAS and ADN
